Model of Toothill Bank, Rastrick.
Why is this model house on view at Rastrick Library? It is a faithful reproduction of a house on Toothill Bank, Rastrick – now demolished – which was the home of one of Rastrick’s formidable women.
Emily Walton (née Rodgers), her husband Joseph Henry, and their nine children lived here. Emily worked at Toothill Hall. She was on the Board of Governors of Brighouse Girls’ Grammar School, Rastrick Secondary Modern School and Victoria Secondary Modern School, and a member of the Ashlar Division Education Executive. An active member of Brighouse Local Independent Labour Party, social secretary of Brighouse Labour Club, Chair of the Huddersfield, Halifax and District Labour Women’s Advisory Council and a member of the Brighouse Branch of the United Nations Association. All this in addition to her duties as cook and companion at the Hall!
The model was given to the Rastrick Local History Group by Emily’s grandson, David, and can be seen at Rastrick Library where more details of Emily are available.
